The European Commission published the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on liability for defective products on September 28, 2022. This proposal aims to revise the Product Liability Directive (PLD) so that rules on market surveillance and product safety better reflect the changing digital age and the circular economy. One important revision is considering cyber security vulnerability in product safety and liability.
