The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) issued BIS Conformity Assessment Amendment Regulation, 2022 on March 16, 2022, which amends Conformity Assessment Regulation, 2018. This amendment includes Scheme X, which will be covered under Schedule II of BIS.
The Amendment Regulation includes:
Specifying the conformity assessment scheme for the granting of license to use or apply Standard Mark for products based on the specified requirements.
Allowing manufacturers to opt for the license of demonstration of conformity of products, and the license of demonstration of conformity of management system to the specified requirements.
Allowing manufacturers to opt for the Certificate of Conformity instead of a license in the event the product is not manufactured on a continuous basis. (Manufacturers will not be authorized to use the Standard mark in this case)
Marking Products and/or packaging with Standard mark.
Nominating an authorized Indian representative based in India for applications for foreign manufacturers
Granting the license for a period of time no less than 3 years and up to 6 years.
