The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) would implement a new standard mark for the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), and met with stakeholders on December 29, 2022 to discuss the implementation and any concerns.
Points and concerns discussed during the meeting include the following:
BIS proposes to substitute the CRS standard mark with the ISI standard mark, and products being imported beyond the release of official notification will bear the new standard mark.
BIS intends to change the standard mark so that there is a single mark for all safety schemes, and because the ISI mark is more recognizable by consumers.
The registration process for products will not change, only the appearance of the standard mark will change.
Since the standard mark’s appearance will change, re-labeling will be required. Requests have been made to remove standard references from the standard mark.
Promoting a new standard mark for CRS will require additional efforts and commercials for promoting and branding.
The current tentative timeline is 6 months from the date of the release of notification. Industries have requested at least 12-months to implement the change.
