Saudi Arabia (SASO) - RoHS Requirements Implementation

July, 2022

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) of Saudi Arabia informed the new technical regulation requirements on Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) starting from July 2022. Small household appliances became the first product category that required conformity assessment against RoHS.

By the end of 2022, two more categories of electrical and electronic product should meet RoHS requirements to get access to the KSA market:

  • Large household appliances

  • Information and communication technology equipment

The conformance of devices to the RoHS requirements should be carried out through the relevant KSA or GULF standards in case of absence of such standards, the international one must be implemented. Additionally, the manufacturer should provide a technical file to the device as well as evidence that his company has an effective quality management system.
