December, 2021

The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) released two safety standards for lamps:

  1. TIS 2779-2562 “Double-capped LED lamps designed to retrofit linear fluorescent lamps - Safety specifications”

  2. TIS 2780-2562 “Self-ballasted LED-lamps for general lighting services by voltage >50 V - Safety specifications”

TIS 2779-2562 is identical to IEC 62776:2014+Cor1:2015 and applies to double-capped LED lamps with G5 and G13 caps, intended to replace fluorescent lamps with the same caps:

  • Rated power up to 125 W

  • Rated voltage up to 250 V‍

TIS 2780-2562 is harmonized with IEC 62560:2011+AMD1:2015 and applies to self-ballasted LED-lamps, intended for domestic and similar general lighting purposes:

  • Rated wattage up to 60 W

  • Rated voltage of > 50 V up to 250 V‍

Both standards specify general safety and testing requirements as well as specific requirements:

  • Marking requirements

  • Interchangeability requirements

  • Pin-safety during insertion

  • Protection against accidental contact with live parts

  • Mechanical requirements for caps

  • Resistance to heat, flame and ignition

  • Fault conditions, etc.

Provisions of these standards become mandatory from March 29, 2022.
