The Wireless Telecommunication Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the USA has released a public consultation on potential use of the 71-76 GHz, 81-86 GHz, 92-94 GHz, and 94.1-95 GHz (70/80/90 GHz) frequency bands to provide broadband internet access to communities in areas lacking consistent connectivity, as well as to customers in airplanes and aboard ships.
The Commission is seeking comments on the use of High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS) or other platform services based in the stratosphere to provide this access in the 70/80/90 GHz bands. The public consultation is open and will receive comments until December 2, 2021, with reply comments being due before January 3, 2022.
