ISED has announced a significant change to product certification applications, effective June 30, 2025. From this date forward, you can no longer list multiple Product Marketing Names (PMNs) in a single field within an application, even if separated by characters like commas or slashes.
What This Means for Your Certifications
If your product involves more than one PMN, it will now be considered a "family application" and must be submitted as such. This applies even when multiple PMNs are associated with a single Hardware Version Identification Number (HVIN). A standalone single product certification won't be sufficient for multiple PMNs.
Fees Remain Unchanged for Family Applications
Good news on the fee front: the 2023 fee revisions still apply. There's no additional fee per model within a family application; the equipment registration fee is a fixed amount per application, regardless of the number of product versions included.
How to Submit Family Applications
For new family applications with multiple PMNs, each PMN must be listed individually under different product versions (PVs). For example:
1 PMN, 5 HVINs: PV1 = HVIN 1 + PMN 1, PV2 = HVIN 2 + PMN 1, etc.
5 PMNs, 1 HVIN: PV1 = HVIN 1 + PMN 1, PV2 = HVIN 1 + PMN 2, etc.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Applications submitted on or after June 30, 2025, that improperly list multiple PMNs in a single field will be returned to the Certification Body for correction. New single applications submitted incorrectly will be refunded and require a new family application.
