On October 10, 2024, the National Authority for Public Services (ASEP) in Panama reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the country’s telecommunications infrastructure by promoting the deployment of 5G networks. ASEP's General Manager, Zelmar Rodríguez Crespo, emphasized the importance of regulatory standards that enable the adoption of new technologies like 5G.

ASEP has been working to create the necessary conditions for current and future operators to deploy 5G, including conducting pilot tests and modifying technical regulations to make more spectrum, such as the 2.5 and 3.5 GHz bands, available for 5G use.

Rodríguez Crespo noted that the rollout of 5G will be gradual, initially targeting customers with compatible devices in select areas. She also highlighted the role of operators like TIGO and Más Móvil Panamá in this process, stressing ASEP's commitment to ensuring the implementation of 5G is done with the highest standards of security, quality, and public benefit.
