ISED Updates SRSP-516: New Technical Standards for the 2.3 GHz WCS Band

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has released SRSP-516, Issue 2, which outlines the technical requirements for the Wireless Communication Service (WCS) operating in the 2305-2320 MHz and 2345-2360 MHz bands. This update replaces the previous version from 2014 and is designed to ensure efficient spectrum use as radio technology evolves.

• Integration of AAS Rules: The primary update involves the inclusion of technical rules for Active Antenna Systems (AAS). This allows for more modern, integrated hardware deployments in these frequency bands.

• Design vs. Specification: The document remains a guide for system design and spectrum efficiency. It is not intended to be an exhaustive manual for equipment manufacturing or selection.

• Scope of Application: These standards apply specifically to WCS, focusing on the minimum technical hurdles required to prevent interference and maximize the utility of the 2.3 GHz range.

• Editorial Refinements: General updates and clarifications have been made throughout the text to ensure the document aligns with current regulatory terminology.
