The Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) in Hong Kong has released its Spectrum Release Plan (SRP) for 2025-2027, detailing the upcoming availability of radio spectrum for mobile, fixed wireless, and innovative services. This plan, updated annually, aims to inform the industry about potential spectrum supply for the next three years.
Key Spectrum Releases on the Horizon:
2.5/2.6 GHz Band (50 MHz): This spectrum, important for mobile services, is slated for re-assignment starting in 2025, following the expiry of existing assignments in May 2028. Public consultation on this re-assignment was completed in October 2024.
39.5-43.5 GHz Band (4 GHz): A substantial 4000 MHz of new spectrum in this band is targeted for release in 2026/2027 for mobile/fixed wireless services. The exact timing for public consultation and release will depend on technology and market developments.
1.43-1.444 GHz Band (14 MHz): New spectrum in this band is expected to be assigned in 2025 for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). An industry consultation on this allocation was completed in January 2025.
