On October 31, 2024, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) proposed a partial amendment to the Ordinances for Enforcement of the Radio Act to establish technical standards for capacitive coupling Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) systems operating in the 6.7 MHz frequency band. These systems are expected to be used for powering transport robots in distribution centers and factories.
Key aspects of the amendment include:
Rated Output Power: The maximum rated high-frequency output is set at 4 kW, with a maximum operational output of 130% of the rated power.
Disturbance Wave Limits: The disturbance wave limit is aligned with those for inductive coupling WPT systems, with a 6 dB reduction if the high-frequency output is 1 kW or lower.
Test Method: The testing method for these WPT systems will follow the same guidelines as those used for electric vehicle WPT systems.

The amendment is slated to come into effect in December 2024.
